1000 Words: WWE Will Make a Killing(s)

A semi-regular ‘column’ where I post a photo from the world of rasslin’ that I think speaks volumes…

Ron “R-Truth” Killings may have gotten off to a slow start, with a debut that saw the crowd a bit confused and not knowing what to think of the ‘newcomer’ but… since he began rapping through the crowd while making his way to the ring, something interesting has happened: he’s caught on. Even more interestingly, he’s using the same entrance music we’ve heard before, but for whatever reason he comes across 1000x better on WWE TV than he did the last place he was. Sure you can say he came into his own in TNA — and hey, two world title reigns is nothing to sneeze at — but he also has a couple of embarrassing angles that I’m sure he and his fans would rather forget about. In contrast, since his promo videos began running in WWE, new life’s been breathed into the wrestler-formerly-known-as-K-Kwik, and in my opinion, he’s got a legitimate chance of being a true, main event star on Friday nights.

And if you don’t believe me, take a look at the above photo from last week’s Smackdown — Truth rhyming through the crowd and dancing with a kid who’s wearing a Rey Mysterio mask and D-X t-shirt — and tell me that picture doesn’t speak 1000 words about Killings’ future.

  1. Totally right. Killings is going to be a huge, huge star. He’s got a great natural physique, charisma oozing from his pores, and he’s got an entrance gimmick that sets him apart from all the other vanilla wrestlers in the company.

And no, by “vanilla” I did not mean “white”.

  2. He’d be a great midcarder to keep crowds in shows but can’t work at a level yet to get over higher up.

  3. His work in the ring doesn’t matter at all to the creative team. He’ll be a main eventer inside of 6 months.

  4. JB - Exactly.
AG - He’s good enough, though, and theoretically less risky than giving the ball to Jeff.

  5. Hey look! They got over two minorities with the price of one!

    ???

    Profit!

  6. you know that they will push him too, since WWE does like to push homegrown, and, even tho he was in TNA for a long time, WWE still sees Truth as their own.

  7. Workrate matters for smaller guys unless they’re “chosen ones” and even then you better be seen to being working at it.

  8. He’s smaller… than HHH and Batista, sure. But he’s about Edge’s size, no?

  9. …God I had forgotten all about those terrible movie trailers

  10. I was trying to picture Vince’s face (and the steam coming out of his ears) when R-Truth made his debut and the crowd was dead. He seems to have picked up some fan following but I don’t think it’s anything like WWE was hoping for in the beginning. TNA fans loved Killings and even AAA fans liked him enough to hate him because he’s an American.

  11. Yes, he’s the size of Edge, who’s a great wrestler, HBK, who’s a great wrestler, Jericho, who’s a great wrestler, Punk, who’s a great wrestler. Name someone his size who isn’t great in ring who’s gotten a top push?

You can make a case for MAYBE Cena, but he’s slightly bigger and apparently a total freak when it comes to working on everything.

  12. Triple H vs Ron Killings. WrestleMania 25?

  13. Matt - you speak nothing but the (R)Truth, the (R)Truth, and nothing but the (R)Truth!

  14. Edge - 6′5″, 250
    Killings - 6′2″, 220

A lot of people mistake Edge for shorter than he is. He’s taller than Brock Lesnar, simply nowhere as jacked.

I’m not sure if he’ll be a main eventer, though he has the charisma. Certainly it would do more for the spirit than seeing Koslov dominate the world…

  19. Doesn’t he count as a TNA castoff now?

no, because WWE is the bigger leagues. now when people leave the E, they r castoffs because, its like a NBA player goin to the D league. Have u realized that Christan is really the only TNA guy that is not labled as a “castoff” since he left.

  20. Thanks Mayor!
Aaron - Orton might be a better example, albeit he’s taller.

Posted by Matthew Michaels | October 5, 2008, 11:51 am
  21. Orton is, besides taller, and a second generation star who was groomed for a top spot from the moment he debuted. Curran thinks RVD is a reasonable comp, but I’ve never seen anything from killings on par with RVD’s upper card work, so besides athleticism, it isn’t apt.
