BLATT vs ECW - September 23rd, 2008

DON’T QUESTION THE FIRE THAT BURNS INSIDE!

New intro video with lots of Evan Bourne. A wrestling fan can get used that that. Ummm… JR is announcing tonight? Okay, I guess. This pairing at the announce table should be interesting.

the Douches make their way out to the ring and they want to clear something up. They’re upset that Evan Bourne beat the Miz last week. The Miz, by the way has a glittery ying-yang hat on. The Miz says he was superior to Evan Bourne and he only won because of Ricky Ortiz. Blah blah blah, they make fun of Ortiz’ hair. Morrison is without his jacket. I wonder if he’s moving away from that. He thinks that they should be main eventing instead of babysitting the new kids. They change their tune to verbally attack Teddy Long. Cue Teddy Long. Hey playa.

Long says that Bourne and Ortiz are part of the new superstar initiative and beat the Miz last week. That makes the initiative successful. Morrison says “good call on that Braden Walker. I’m sure he’s very successful for suing his future endeavors after he got released from ECW after just two matches.” Holy shit. Long wants to make himself clear. The youngest superstars in the industry will continue to come from ECW. If they have a problem with that, they can get out of his ring. The Miz will take on Bourne and Ortiz tonight! But Bourne isn’t here, so too bad.

Ortiz comes out and he’s angry. He’s willing to fight. The douches want to take on Ortiz, but will fight anyone. Teddy Long will take them up on that, Tonight, it’s The Miz vs John Morrison. One more thing. right after that match, the winner will fight Ricky Ortiz. Ortiz kinda looks like Ken Marino in Wet Hot American Summer: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0547800/.

Backstage, Ortiz and Long are chatting. Ortiz flubs his first line and we’re interrupted by Tiffany. Ricky’s got something in his pocket, and it’s the Ricky O rally towel. Tiffany takes a shine to Ricky and we have to watch this.

Finlay over Bam Neely by shalaylee
Finlay out wrestles Neely to stat out, throwing uppercuts and avoiding grappling with him. This continues, with Neely getting in no offense for the first few minutes of the match. Neely finally reverses a whip and clotheslines Finlay in the corner and follows it up with a boot to the face. Neely catches Finlay off the ropes and slams him to the mat, Hornswoggle interjects himself, gets tossed and Neely eats shalaylee.

Maryse over Michelle McCool
Uhhhh… what? Maryse? Michelle McCool? Come on. You could at least pretend that someone here was on ECW.

Mark Henry comes out and is all “OMG! I’m gonna beat up Matt Hardy! I was never pinned!” Whatever dude.

Mike Knox over Chase Stevens
Instead of the new superstar initiative, they should just call it “a few new guys and the rest are jobbers”.

Down tot he ring strolls Jack Swagger. Swagger hits his pump handle powerbomb on Stevens, and here comes Tommy Dreamer. Knox distracts Dreamer and then Dreamer gets hit with the pump handle powerbomb.

The Miz vs. John Morrison went to a no content
Start with a collar and elbow, Miz gets the advantage into the corner, but they break clean. Another C&E, another clean corner break. A third C&E and Miz gets n arm bar. Morrison goes behind for a headlock. Miz punches out, whips Morrison and is knocked to the canvas with a shoulder block. Miz back to an arm bar, Morrison fights out, gets whipped and sunset flips over the Miz for a two. TWO!

A few near falls back and forth and John Morrison shoves the Miz out of the ring and we head to commercial. We’re back and during the break the Miz dropped Morrison on the ring barrier. Back into the ring Morrison has the advantage with a few fists to the face. Morrison goes to the head, Miz fights out, hits a boot to the chest and hits his jumping clothesline in the corner. Miz goes to a rear naked choke. Miz attempts a clothesline and gets a drop toe hold instead. Morrison covers with two feet on the ropes and the count is broken. Miz takes a Russian leg sweep for two. TWO!

Miz hits something like a front Russian leg sweep to get control. Miz hits a springboard legdrop and stays on Morrison in the corner.Miz puts Morrison onto the top rope and both men fight on the turnbuckles until… wha? They fall off the top and get counted out.

Here comes Ricky Ortiz to hit the Big O on everyone and that’s the show.

  1. C’mon Blatt. Those weren’t pumphandle powerbombs, they were gut wrench powerbombs (of the fall-forward or Dr. Bomb variety, popularized by Dr. Death Steve Williams, and correctly called tonight by Striker).

This distinction is obviously the most important thing in the world.

  2. Jr/Striker meshed well tonight and I loved the “future endeavors” line that Morrison used on Braden Walker. That made me laugh.

  3. I didn’t watch the show so I can’t comment on any of the matches. Nice write up.

  4. This is the 2nd time I’ve seen Maryse fight in less than a week, and I am going to go out on a limb here….she’s awful. I don’t care how hot she is, she’s awful. Like, maybe the worst Diva I’ve ever seen.

She cannot even get her mannerisms down right. She appears like she’s trying to pull a Rick Martel smart ass smirk, but it just is a goofy smile. And the flipping up of her hands….what’s up with that? It’s like she cannot physically raise her arms above boob level. Well, maybe in reality she cannot.

Although to find one silver lining, her pin on McCool maybe the hottest thing any Diva has done since Mickie and Trish were in the ring.

  5. Joe, if it makes you feel better, I don’t think Maryse should be in the ring either. There are quite a few “divas” that need to be doing something besides attempting to wrestle.

  6. That was also The Test Bomb.

  7. This seems to be one of the hardest things to get anywhere online, but:

It’s shillelagh. The way you’ve spelled it is really…really awkward.

Also, is that former TNA tag champ Chase Stevens (of the Naturals)?
