The Evolution of Shane Storm
One Move Could Change Your Life

Previously on One Move…
We left off with Shane Storm teaming with Jigsaw for a good majority of the 2007 Season. After gaining three points in March, ShaneSaw went up against Team FIST for their Campeonatos de Parejas. Losing the match two falls to one, ShaneSaw spent the rest of their time together trying to regain their points for another title shot. Every match they had for the third point, Shane Storm would always drop the ball. After losing to the debuting Osirian Portal, Jigsaw left Shane Storm and ventured onto singles competition.

Things were looking bleak for Shane Storm. He started off 2007 as a King of Trios Champion with teammates by the name of Mike Quackenbush and Jigsaw. After being ditched by Jigsaw and Mike Quackenbush in a feud at the time, Storm had nobody to turn to. He would have to rely on himself for the rest of the 2007 year.

2007 Fines (2007 Ends)
The 2007 Chikara Season was ready to end, but before they closed shop they put on a weekend of shows in November. While this weekend was more concentrated on Eddie Kingston, Hallowicked, Claudio Castagnoli, Chris Hero, Lince Dorado and Mitch Ryder, there was a smaller story in the undercard. Shane Storm had wrestled few singles matches in 2007 and this was his opportunity to assure the crowd he can carry himself to success. Throughout this three-event weekend, Storm would wrestle Hydra and Chuck Taylor.

Chuck Taylor was at the top of his game in 2007. He had won the fifth annual Young Lions Cup Tournament, the Rey de Voladores Tournament and was the IWA-MS World Champion. If Storm was going to prove himself as a worthy singles competitor, there was no one better to do it against than Chuck Taylor. After a back and forth battle, it was Taylor who would screech his victory yell after slamming Storm’s head on the canvas with his signature Omega Driver. After a rough fight, the Storm had to forget his loss against Taylor and move on to Hydra.

Hydra is a monster. Weighing in at over six thousand tons and sometimes over twenty feet tall, it’s hard to deny. But let’s face it, his size and moveset aren’t very hard to get around. So when Storm walked into the ring with the Self-Replicating Mini-Monster, he thought it was going to be easy redemption. Not so fast by friend! Storm actually had trouble beating Hydra! It wasn’t until Ultramantis Black inadvertently burnt Hydra’s face where Storm would pick up the win. Closing out his 2007 Season, Storm was still friend-less and almost lost to Hydra. Not a great way to finish off the year.

Shane Storm losing wasn’t the only important occurrence of the weekend. Equinox and Chris Hero did battle in a Hair vs. Mask match. Equinox had already made Hero tap once before to The Chikara Special, but Hero evened up the score after eliminating Equinox in 9/2007’s Cibernetico. Tied at one-a-piece, this was the winner takes all match. Hero was on the winning side for most of the match until getting locked into The Chikara Special. Equinox was about to pull off the biggest win of his career! But there was a problem, Hero wasn’t tapping. Chris Hero calmly reversed the hold into his own modification of The Chikara Special in the middle of the ring. With nowhere to go, Equinox had no choice but to tap out and give up his blue and red mask.

Hero cut a promo on how horrible and pathetic Equinox was. When Hero first fought Equinox, it was in the ECW Arena. Hero had no problem manhandling Equinox then, and this match was no different. Ashamed, Equinox crouched in the middle of the ring and pulled off his mask only to reveal himself as a gringo (white man).

There’s no shame in being white. As far as I’m concerned, we are all equal and no one is better than anyone else. But the problem here was Equinox told Chikara Officials he trained in Mexico under Tito Santana. He told Chikarason he was of Spanish descent as it was a sure-fire way to get into Chikara. Hero said he’s seen this man before and he goes by the name of Vin Gerard. He was in the Chikara Wrestle Factory when Hero was a trainer and wasn’t good enough for Chikara. It was clear that Vin Gerard had conned his way into Chikara.

Vin Gerard was met at the stage by all of the masked luchadors in the back. Sure some of them were gringos, but they didn’t lie about where they were from. Gerard cheated his way into the Chikara locker-room, and the masked wrestlers weren’t happy about that at all. The luchadors forced Gerard to leave the arena, and barred him from ever entering the Chikara Locker-room again.

Nariz Rota (Broken Nose)

Shane Storm had a good amount of time to rest and work on his wrestling skills during off-season. His first match of 2008 wasn’t going to be an easy one either, as he was going up against Eddie Kingston. This was around the time when Kingston engaged his war plan to take down every Chikara Wrestler he had in front of him. Storm was going up against a man who had nothing to his name but his will to fight. Considering this fight was in January, I’ll bet good money one of Storm’s New Year Resolutions were to turn his career around. His efforts in 2007 didn’t get him where he wanted to, and he was ready to make Kingston cry. There was only one problem, Eddie Kingston doesn’t cry.

The only person crying in that match was Shane Storm. Eddie Kingston’s will to kill surpassed Storm’s will to win. The end result? Shane Storm was a victim to one of the most brutal beat downs in Chikara History. After a Backdrop Driver, a vicious lariat, a series of strikes to the face, and Kingston’s notorious Backfist to the Future, Storm had not only suffered a broken nose, but also another loss. And if you were wondering, yes, all of the blood in the picture above belongs to Shane Storm.

Rey de Trios 2008 (King of Trios 2008)

When King of Trios time rolled around, Mike Quackenbush assembled a team that he had a great history with. Though he was on a bit of a slump at the time, Quack drafted Storm as his first teammate. The third spot would obviously go to Jigsaw at this point, but Quack had something else in mind when he called up his mentor and trainer, Jorge “Skayde” Rivera and gave him the open spot. These three were ready to take any and all challengers that met them along their fight to the finals. Team Chikara planned on celebrating yet another victory as King of Trios. Unfortunately for Team Chikara, Team Mexico was the only trio to execute their plans after beating Team BLKOUT in the finals.

Say It Ain’t So…

America’s Hero, Tim Donst, suffered from a concussion after becoming victim to Ultramantis Black’s Praying Mantis Driver. After losing the match, Donst was a bit loopy and didn’t know where he was. ‘Mantis came back into the ring and led the confused Tim Donst to the locker room. For a second, it looked as if ‘Mantis was actually helping out a Tecnico.

Weeks later in the Chikara Podcast A-Go-Go, ‘Mantis revealed his evil genius plan. He tricked Tim Donst into believing he was a member of The Order of the Neo Solar Temple. Donst would then dawn face paint and one of The Order’s signature track jackets. Say it ain’t so Donst. Say it ain’t so.

Sólo (Alone)

At this point, Shane Storm was desperate for a win. His last singles win was against Hydra, and that was a fluke victory. Within the past two years, Storm only had two singles victories (Rahim Ali and Hydra). He’s already lost to Vin Gerard, Eddie Kingston (twice) and Brodie Lee in 2008. I would say he needs to turn things around and prove himself a worthy singles wrestler, but it’s honestly getting old. Storm has had chance after chance to prove himself, and he’s failed every single time. You could see the frustration set in throughout his actions in matches. Storm then bravely decided to leave behind his dream of becoming a successful singles wrestler in Chikara and reunited with two-time King of Trios finalist “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush.

Encender Tormenta (Lightning Storm)

Cleverly named “Lightning Storm”, the team of Mike Quackenbush and Shane Storm would tear through competition in Chikara. Their first match together in 2008 was a winning effort against Chuck Taylor and Gran Akuma of Team FIST. Their next victory came when Mike Quackenbush gave Ophidian the Quackendriver 3 to gather a win over The Osirian Portal for their second point.

Young Lions Cup Night Two would host a matchup between Lightning Storm and Super Smash Brothers. After ten minutes of high-flying super-cool action, Shane Storm grabbed the win over Stupified with a rollup to gather his third point! But while Storm was in the act of rolling Stupified up, Donst came down to ringside and anxiously whispering something in Quack’s ear pointing to Shane Storm. “Shane Storm taught Ultramantis the reversal to the Chikara Special…”
